BOOK TITLE: THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
Part 1:
REFLECT
Charlie is a freshman student, an outcast but a deeply intelligent guy. He suffered from being confused, alone, shy and from things as natural as not feeling like you belong, to accepting and finding out who you are. Charlie is a very emotional character that sees and experiences terrible events and issues. He is really trying to participate in life. Until the time came when he met, Patrick, Sam, Maria Elizabeth and Alice, a group of seniors and who him introduced to partying, drugs, alcohol, sex, love and friendship, which made him enjoyed his first year in high school.
CONNECT
Just like Charlie, I experienced that awkward transition from being kid into a young adult who is trying to participate, and that depressing feeling of being outcast, confused and alone. I started when I was 1st year high school every disturbing or overwhelming thoughts that cross my mind I write it out in my notebook, it seemed to be my friendwhen Im alone and my best friend when I am happy. We only live once, and every minute should be well spent, just like Charlie I feel infinite when I'm with the people I love, it gives me a limitless feeling of happiness no one could explain because I know that somewhere, sometime and somehow everyone experienced it. I could relate that there is really this point of our lives that we want to try and explore things, even though I am not interested of the things which Charlie and his friends did like partying, drugs, alcohol, sex, except love and friendship as a teen I have space for curiosity about these stuffs. I learned that sometimes it's okay to be sad and alone.
QUESTION
I wonder why Charlie tried the drug offered to him by Elizabeth knowing that he is an intelligent and a nice guy. Is that because he is influenced by his friends or that he really has the curiosity towards what drugs could do to him? I am still glad though, because Charlie decidednot to do it again.
PREDICT
As Charlie learned how to participate, I believe that he will do good at school and even excel academically, I think that Charlie will have many friends and he will be a good one. Unlike in his first day of school of being a freshmen I bet he could now enjoy and tis every moment of the coming years in high school life.
Part 2:
CHARLIE
Charlie as the main character he showed the importance of people, that even wallflowers like him could shine, that you will not be alone forever, and in time you will find your true friends.
“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”
PATRICK
Patrick is Charlies first friend in the story, he is Sam's step brother, he is kind and funny and he knowshow to value friendship. He is the reason why Charlie now have his circle of friends. Patrick was onced bullied by Brandons friends and Charlie helped him out.
SAM
Sam is the love interest of Charlie. She had his boyfriend who cheated on her thats why they broke up. She is the one who motivated Charlie to to be a man of action.
“You have to do things. Be a man of action. Make a difference."
BILL
Charlie established a relationship with his English teacher Bill. Bill gives Charlie extra work writing reports on books such as To Kill a Mockingbird, A Separate Peace, The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye. Bill is an eye opener to Charlie, he said that he needs to participate.
"You accept the love you think you deserve."
